Thinking About your Web Site Name
When you start to think about your web site name there are many things to consider. Sometimes the name is the same as the name of your company and other times it is not. You need to be aware of what the web site name does for you and how it can help to brand whatever it is you are trying to sell or get out to the world.
Many times the name of your business will be the name of your website, but if you are trying to build a niche site for internet marketing purposes, the name could vary. There are two schools of thought when it comes to building a website and choosing the web site name for it. One is to brand your business or your own name and the other is to make the name something keyword rich.
Below you will find a bit of a detailed description of what both of these methods can do for you and how to use them. If you are simply trying to create a company site for your business, then match the domain name and the web site name to the name of the company. This will make it easier to remember and recognize for your visitors.
Choosing Your Web Site Name
Branding
Branding has been around for centuries and even back when currency was not the form of money names were branded and placed were branded. It actually started with animals and by branding them, everybody knew who they belonged to. Well, you can do the same thing now with a website, blog, or any other internet property.
Branding has not changed much as we still want to create a type of ownership. You need to have a business logo that contains your web site name and you need to match that name exactly to the domain name with a dot com extension. This will make it very easy to recognize and remember for customers and visitors coming to your website.
Think about it this way, if the name of your company was "ABC Construction", but your website address was xyzconstruction.com, then how many of your customers are going to find you? They will assume you are located at abcconstruction.com because that is the name of your company. If you are not located there, then they may struggle to find you at all.
Keyword Rich Web Site Name
Another way to go, and this is what most internet marketers and affiliate marketers do, is to use a keyword phrase in the domain name. You can choose to go with one of the keyword phrases that gets a larger amount of searched and has to do with the product or niche you are trying to promote. Then, you just need to add content to the site that matches and you can take the top ranking on search engines for that keyword phrase.
The reason many internet and affiliate marketers use this method is for search engine optimization purposes. Search engines will list the domains that closely match the search term closer to the top of the listings, as long as they have good content that also matches. This is a great way to create a large amount of traffic from the search engines.
Which Web Site Name is Right for You?
The right web site name for you is the one that will make the most sense with your project. If you plan to build many blogs and websites and drive traffic to them from the search engines, then using a keyword rich web site name may be best. However, if you are a company located off and online, then you may want to consider branding your web site name.
