A Breakdown of the Different Levels of a Web Hosting Company

Are You Aware of all the Different Web Hosting Company Levels?

A web hosting company can be categorized into a few different choices. There are cheap hosting choices, inexpensive hosting choices, secure hosting choices, and there are dedicated hosting choices. These are four main categories that you need to be aware of. One other category you could add to the list would be the free web hosting company, but since this is not recommended at all, we will skip it entirely.

Breaking down each category we can make many different sub-categories, but for the sake of keeping it simple, we will stick to just a good and a bad web hosting company within each category. This knowledge will help you to choose the right company for your hosting before it comes down to leaving one for another.

The Breakdown of a Web Hosting Company

1. Cheap Hosting Choices

Cheap hosting choices are the companies that concentrate on one thing and one thing only, price. They don't strive to provide the best service in the industry and they don't try to give their customers the most features. Instead, they try to provide adequate hosting at the absolute lowest price in the industry.

A good web hosting company within the cheap hosting category is a bit harder to find, but one that fits is FatCow. They offer good support and service with their cheap hosting packages. A bad web hosting company within this category is actually the best domain registration company out there, GoDaddy. Their hosting simply is not that good, but it is super cheap.

2. Inexpensive Hosting Choices

The difference between cheap and inexpensive is all about the company. Nearly every company that offers shared hosting has an inexpensive option. This type of hosting focuses on offering an inexpensive package for one website or blog with a couple upgrades for unlimited domain hosting and more features. They provide better support in this category.

A good hosting company within this category would be either HostMonster or HostGator. There are a large number of bad hosting companies within this category, so be careful which one you choose.

3. Secure Hosting Choices

Secure hosting comes in two forms, VPS hosting and dedicated hosting. Since there is a category for dedicated hosting we will concentrate on VPS hosting. This gives you the ability to customize many things including your security. With VPS hosting you are not vulnerable to hackers simply because of the server you sit on. It is not as cheap as shared hosting, but it is worth the extra money spent.

The best web hosting company for VPS hosting is HostGator and any company offering a large package for under $20 is not a good hosting company for VPS hosting.

4. Dedicated Hosting Choices

By far the best and most secure hosting out there is dedicated server hosting. The companies that offer this type of hosting will usually have a variety of different servers with different sizes for you to choose from. There are many great companies in this category and if you need dedicated hosting take the time to compare at least a few of them.

Choosing a Web Hosting Company

Choosing the right web hosting company for you is not always easy, but if you narrow it down to three different companies, you can compare them thoroughly before you choose. Use customer reviews and website reviews to find the three you like the most, and then compare the features, price, and support of each web hosting company before you commit to one company.
